Carrier - II

Of course I was watching last night. While I was watching I had a nagging questions that maybe some of you Navy wives (and gals) can help me with. And no disrespect with this but.... Can they really wear their hair that long!? Wow some of the guys on there have some wicked long hair.

Now keep in mind I'm married to a Marine so I guess wicked long is a relative thing.

  1. Yeah, for us, a whole inch is wicked long!

  2. Oh, and especially if there's any hair on the sides of their head!

  3. I haven't watched it yet but...the only regs I remember are that it can't touch their ears and/or (I think, but this might just be the girls) collar. Which leaves an awful lot of leeway to 'grow out' some hair. I cannot remember if there's a rule about the top...because my hubby basically shaves his head, waits til it is just about to hit his ears and then shaves again.

  5. since I was drafted in June of 1960 and spent the next 2.5 decades in the army, I am not fond of long hair on a guy, who knows if I had been out there with all the dope smoking freaks in the 60's.

  6. My brother's on a Navy sub and when they go out on mission, the CO lets them grow facial hair and grow their hair out if they want. It's not like anyone's going to see them.

Yes...wicked long is a relative thing :) My Marine buddy gets a haircut every week. I think they should have an allowance for haircuts. If they get one every week, at about $15 a pop including tip, that's almost $780. Ouch.

  7. Hi! I found your blog thru Dragonfly's blog (LOVE reading her!) and I'm a milwife too...I actually lived up near USMA at one time, so I can totally relate to your comment about housing up there...and being remote, since you're a MC family. I'm an Army spouse, but we rarely live on post and I have learned to live better IN the community than ON post...though I do miss having a commissary easily accessible!

I'll be adding you to my RSS feed and reading regularly (if only to get a glimpse of the Northeast in your photos - I'm from MAINE, originally!)

  9. Ah ha! I can make an intelligent comment now. Woot!

I was a midshipman on an ROTC scholarship, so I know the regs. Navy guys can have hair up to four inches on top, and it can't touch ears or collar of uniform. Additionally, if sides are shaved down shorter than the top of the hair, the two lengths must be blended.

Also, nose and ear hair must be trimmed. Gunnery Sergeant was brutal with nose hair.... LOL

  10. Shucks, I forgot about that on Sunday. I enjoyed the first episode. Looks like a good series.

  11. I wish someone would tell that nose hair regulation to a certain chief that will remain nameless (no, not my husband!).

  12. So it IS a Marine thing....I was starting to think my husband was OCD.

  13. No, they are not supposed to wear their hair long at all. What is long though? I think they are aloud no more than 2 inches on the top and sides must be shaved short. Side burns must not go further down then the center of their ear (you know that little nub on your ear above the lobe? sideburns cannot go past that.) I know this cause I am the family Barber LOL!

  14. The Sergeant just shaves his head. Sometimes with clippers, sometimes with a bic. I like it. :)
