when you see one lone shoe in the middle of a road, especially a busy road, how did it get there?
And where is the other one?
This has always bothered me and now I'm sharing so it will bother you too and cause my mom taught me to share. You can thank me later.

Probably from a person like me. I remember as a kid, I would pop a shoe off and throw it out the minivan window if I got bored on long road trips...
ReplyDeleteBack home a couple years ago, one of the morning radio shows did a whole segment about it. And what they concluded was that people would put their shoes on top of their car after the gym and then forget about them.
ReplyDeleteIt bothers me too when I see them. Yesterday on post I saw a shower shoe on one side of the road (one way street) and going the other way when I was leaving, I saw the other one.
HAH. I've always wondered. Part of it freaks me out, but it also makes me think that it fell off a foot (well, unless it's in the middle of a road, then hopefully not!)
ReplyDeleteyeah, I always wonder that???
ReplyDeleteI always see a rando shoe on the side of lthe highway! Who does this??? :)
Mine is always the tennis shoes tied together and thrown over the electric or cable wires....
ReplyDeleteHow do they do that? I would think it would take several tries and doesn't someone see them?
It always bothers me, too!
ReplyDeleteIt has always bothered me too... especially if it is a kid's shoe.
ReplyDeleteI am also with Trudy on the tied together pairs thrown over ele/cable/phone wires. I always laugh at it..because wherever we go...there they are.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely something that bothers me... along with random pieces of clothing like socks.
ReplyDeleteHaha. When I was a kid, I always thought that seeing the one shoe in the middle of the road meant someone was abducted. IDK why. I think I watched way too much TV. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI totally always wondered that too!! How does a shoe just fall out of a car? Who throws a shoe out of a car? Wierd.
ReplyDeleteI've wondered that myself a time or two... or when I see shoes tied together and thrown over the telephone lines. Why would a person do that?!
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone. It's an enigma. I picture some gooney teenagers fooling around throwing friends shoes out the window whilst swerving all over the road.
ReplyDeleteAbout those pair of shoes up on the wire, my husband swears up and down that in his college town, that's where you could find drug dealers. In the houses with the shoes hanging from the wires. Whatever.
I always assume it was a result of leaving shoes on the top of your car. :) The same goes for random anything found on the side of the road.
ReplyDeleteMy mom took me to the pediatrian when I was about 5, I think I had the flu. I was totally out of it, she said she had to carry me to the carry I was so sick. She'd taken my shoes off, put them on the top of the car and put me in the car. When we got home [20m drive] apparently the shoes were still there. Wonders... I'm sure that's pretty rare that they were both still there.
But I've left coffee mugs on top of the car and only just remembered them as I start to drive. :S.
I have heard the shoes over the electrical wire corresponding to finding a drug-sell house nearby. *shrugs*
oh yes....the question that leave many a wandering traveler perplexed...mine is the pair of shoes hanging from the telephone lines...like how the heck do they get them up there....
ReplyDeleteThe shoes have definitely left me wondering...but I remember blogging about a BRA in the middle of the road
ReplyDeleteMiddle of the Road
But what sometimes gets me even more? The little kid shoes in the road. Seriously, mom, how many shoes does your child have to toss out the window before you put the childlock on the rear-window controllers?
I see here where people tuck their work boots between the bed and back of their pickups so I think that's how those get there.
ReplyDeleteI had a friend once who got in a huge arguement with her boyfriend in the car and first he threw her cell phone out the window. Then she threw his. Then he threw her shoes out the window... then she threw his. Etc.
There are tennis shoes hanging from the electric line in my neighborhood... hmm.
It's crazy how often you see that!
