Purple is the new pink

Dash-1 has color day at school on Tuesday. The color is purple. Apparently purple is closely related to pink. At least in my son's opinion. He keeps telling me he's not wearing purple. I asked flyboy to talk to him. Flyboy agrees....

with him.

Right now its kind of a non issue, seeing as though I'm getting a late jump on finding a "cool" (that's dash-1's key word for something that is made for a boy just as "pretty" or "cute" is for a girl) purple shirt. And wouldn't you know the boy doesn't own one purple shirt.

If olive drab (you know Marine green) is next month's color selection we've got that one covered no problemo.

I didn't realize it would be so hard to find a friggin purple shirt... or that it would be so hard to get my son to wear one.

I've got two days to find something. Or I'm just putting a purple bow in his hair. And dammit he's gonna like it.

  1. If you have an AC Moore craft store around they sale plain tshirts in almost every color. I bet you could find a purple one there and they are usually like 3 bucks

  2. Tell him i'll send him one of his GFs shirts LOL. Mike had a purple dress shirt and he looked awesome in it. Did you try old navy or something and see if he can find like a tropical shirt with purple flowers

  3. Isn't it interesting how kids latch onto things like that? The whole "BOY" and "GIRL" separation thing is so predominant in our society that we don't want to be caught dead crossing the lines. Very interesting. :) Can you get a shirt that has a word with a little purple lettering on it somewhere? That's what I do for St. Patty's day...Just put a wee bit of green and you're covered.

  6. Um, hello...what about all those comic book superhereos and villans?! The Hulk wears purple pants...not girly! The Joker from Batman wears a purple suit...so not girly. When Bart dresses up as Bartman he sports a purple mask...so I ask you: Is Bart girly? And what about The Phantom? He takes on the injustices of the world and protecting the innocent in a purple spandex suit...girly? I think not! :) :)

  7. I have to go with Dash-1, purple is kind of girly =)

DOes it have to be a plain shirt?? Can it have something on it??? You could go with like a sports team that has purple in it's colors like LSU or the Vikings. That way it makes it "cool"!

  8. You know, reading this makes me dread sending Wyatt to school more and more. I am not looking forward to all this stuff! And my hubby agrees with purple shirt being girly, haha. Is it some kind of requirement to wear it, like he gets a grade or something? Or just for fun? I'm curious if you can just opt out of some of this stuff if your kid isn't into it (or you don't want to buy all this crap!).

  11. Since purple is my favorite color, I am going to resist being offended by Dash's pooh pooh of all things purple. I'm with (Army)wife, superheroes that wear purple totally ROCK!!!

BTW, I have an Air Force centric post up at
